Using ChatGPT for authorization logic in SaaS platforms presents significant security and reliability challenges, as its generative nature introduces non-deterministic outputs and a high risk of hallucinations that are unacceptable for critical access control decisions. Crucially, data privacy and compliance are severely compromised, given the need to feed sensitive user roles, permissions, and resource data to an external model, potentially violating regulations like GDPR. Furthermore, auditability and explainability become nearly impossible, making it difficult to understand or justify why access was granted or denied, which is essential for debugging and regulatory adherence. Performance and cost overheads are also substantial, as every authorization check would require an API call, leading to increased latency and significant operational expenses at scale. Finally, managing complex authorization policies like RBAC or ABAC through prompts is inherently cumbersome and introduces unnecessary system complexity compared to traditional, explicit rule-based engines.
